Marijuana addiction is something many people live with as they hold down jobs and often live a relatively normal life. Behind the scenes though, it’s a problem, and in some ways can overtake their life. For those struggling with this type of compulsive desire to smoke marijuana, this article will look at 4 ways to help you overcome your addiction.

1. Start exercising every day or a few times a week.

Exercise has so many benefits to not just the physical well-being of a person, but there mental health as well. For addicts, exercise offers a way to have some control over the body, feel the pleasure of naturally released adrenaline into the body, and also helps promote discipline. It is no coincidence that nearly all drug detox and rehab facilities include exercise as a critical component of the recovery process. It doesn’t have to be an a huge procedure - simply committing to running, walking, or lifting weights is enough - just do it.

2. Seek the support of your loved ones.

Letting those closest to you know what’s going on, with the understanding that you will need support, can provide an invaluable social framework for support and help. The bad side of this is that sometimes those around you might not be willing to offer support. Try to not focus on that and only focus on those who will empower you instead. This is your battle and you can choose what to fight.

3. Avoid putting yourself in the company of the drug and especially of those who abuse it.

This is a tough guideline. Sometimes family and friends are the ones who were always partaking in the addiction with you. Sometimes they won’t understand what you’re doing and will be hurt by your avoidance. Nevertheless, becoming clean is about no one but you - do what you have to do, especially in the beginning, to make the best choices possible.

4. Live each day as it comes.

If you have a relapse or make some bad mistakes, there is nothing to do but pick your head up and recommit to yourself why you wanted to become clean in the first place. Everyone makes mistakes - those that learn from them are those that forget about it and keep moving in the right direction.

Drug addiction is a sad reality for far too many people; relapse is too. In the end it is up to you to make the decisions that will guide your action and your life. Drug treatment facilities will help but you’ve got to commit to it 100%. Whether you’re suffering from an addiction to marijuana or another substance, it can ruin your life if proper action is not taken. Don’t become a statistic!
